The ghost story winners have been chosen, and the podcast has been made. Come join on us October 31st after school to hear it and share your own spooky stories. Light refreshments will be provided for students that participate.

FBLA (10/29)

Are you a Patriot that gets to campus early on late start Wednesdays?  Now you can get caffeinated and grab a bite to eat on campus.  Starting October 31st, FBLA is bring you a COFFEE STOP every Wednesday morning at the Patriot Hut.  Make a coffee stop with your friends before school starts every Wednesday!  STUCO (Marshall; 10/29)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you their tasty barbeque. You have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Empowerment Club (Ehrick and Frazen; 10/29- 10/31)

Attention Empowerment Club,

We are having our first breakfast. You are invited to our morning breakfast on October 31 at 8 am in the Media Center. Food will be provided, but you are welcome to bring food as well. Join us as we eat and discuss. If you missed our first meeting, no worries. Please feel free to join us.

Culinary Art (10/29)

The Culinary arts students will be selling Halloween decorated cookies and cupcakes on October 31st during both lunches in the Mall area.

Swim and Dive (Hallum; 10/29)

The swim and dive team finished their season last Friday night in a big way, bringing home a total of 14 medals from the district championships.  Freshmen Ashley Morales and Diana Lizarraga Rochin and juniors Briana Gonzalez and Breezia Medina brought home medals for both the 200 Medley relay and the 4 by 100 Freestyle Relay.  Freshmen Khang Nguyen, sophomores Noah Arrieta and Guillermo Cazarez and senior Elijah Cortez brought home medals for their 3rd place finish in the 4 by 100 freestyle relay as well.  Freshmen Diana Lizarraga Rochin brought home medals for her 200-yard Individual Medley and 100-yard backstroke and posted state qualifying times for her backstroke and her 100-yard freestyle in the relay.  Great Job Swimmers, your coaches are very proud of your efforts and performances.  If you see any of the swimmers today, congratulate them on a job well done.

GCC ACE (Trezza; 10/30- 11/16)

Sophomores Only: Glendale Community College (GCC) is offering free college classes through the ACE program. GCC came and did a presentation of all the information. If you missed it, see your counselor. The application is in the counseling department. Come and pick it up! The ACE application will be due Friday November 16th to your counselor. This is a scholarship program for free college classes at Glendale Community College and a great opportunity!

Wrestling (Cumpton; 10/30- 11/2)

Wrestling season has officially begun!  If you are interested in joining the team, see Coach Cumpton after school in his room R7, or head up to the wrestling room upstairs in the main gym at 3:30 for practice.  Also, there is important news for any ladies interested in joining wrestling.  This will be the first year ever that there will be a girls only state tournament in wrestling.  That means that you can make history by being the first ever AZ state champion in your weight class! If you think you have what it takes to compete, you should also see Coach Cumpton or show up to practice for more info.

La Familia Club (Ms. Figueroa; 10/30- 11/1)

  Attention La Familia Club members, our next meeting is Thursday, November 1st after school in Ms. Figueroa’s room, R28. We will talk about the new club T-shirts and the Day of the Dead celebration.

Patriot Hut (A. Munoz; 10/30)

The weather is getting nice at lunch, Patriots.  Why not meet your friends at the Patriot Hut for lunch?  We’ve got pepperoni pizza, cheese pizza, mac & cheese, corndogs and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.  Plus, ICE flavored waters for $1.25 and bottled water for just .50 cents.  We’re open both lunches AND after school from Tuesday through Friday.    

And….on Halloween, all customers get a TREAT of free candy!!!!

UNITOWN (E. Carreon; 10/30 – 11/1)

INDEPENDENCE UNITOWN is hosting a fundraiser this Thursday at Panda Express on 91st and Northern. Come join us anytime between 4:00 – 9:00pm and let them know you’re with Independence. So get out and enjoy some delicious food while also helping out our Unitown club. This Thursday, from 4 to 9, Panda Express at 91st and Northern. See you there!

There will be a mandatory meeting for anyone interested in trying out for the JV Spiritline on Monday, November 5th. Tryout packets will be distributed. You cannot participate without a tryout packet.

Spiritline Competition (Coach Rubio; 11/2)

 “The Varsity Spiritline will be competing in their first competition of the season this Saturday at Verrado High School. Their performance time is 3:25 and admission is $5 with a student ID. Please come out and cheer on the girls that cheer for you all year long!”

Cross Country (R. Foster; 11/2)

Congratulations to the boys and girls cross country team for their outstanding performances in the sectional race on Thursday. Marcela Barrio, Maria Munoz, Kaitlynn Millard, Jennifer Hererra, and Patty Aviles, all ran the best races of the season, Jenny Hererra ran in the top 25 and qualified to run in the state meet next Saturday. The boys team Jewlian Martinez,Ben Adames,George Munoz,Justin Corona,Wayne McColgan, Luis Aviles and Miguel Martinez were fourth out of fourteen teams qualifying them for the state meet as a team.
