MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 


Bookstore (Holt; 10/17)

Information:  The following books will be available for purchase in the bookstore:

Night $7.00, Crucible, $9.00, The color of Water $10.00, The Handmaid’s Tale $8.00, The Great Gatsby $10.00, The Great Expectations $5.50, Othello $2.50, and the Invisible Man $9.50…LIMITED SUPPLY WHEN THERE GONE THEY ARE GONE.

Juniors- Pre-ACT Test (10/17)

Juniors will have an opportunity to take the Pre-ACT Test on October 19th.  The ACT is the college entrance exam to qualify you to be accepted to Universities.  The cost is $12.00, is limited to first come first serve and Juniors can register for the Pre-ACT test in the bookstore.  See your counselor, if you have any questions.

Just a reminder that if you missed walk thru registration and you want your photo in the yearbook, RETAKES are Thursday, October 20th.  If you wish to order your photo’s pick up the order form in the bookstore before the 20th….

Girls Basketball (Gardner; 10/17- 10/18)

Basketball season starts in 2 weeks!! There will be a mandatory meeting for all girls interested in playing basketball this year on Tuesday at 2:45 in the lobby of the main gym. If you cannot attend, please see Coach Gardner on Wednesday to receive the information.  

Shane’s Rib Shack (Marshall; 10/17)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Sophomores:  Are you interested in earning college credit while you are still in high school?  Glendale Community College has the ACE program where you go to college and high school at the same time.  An ACE representative will be at the Career Center today during both lunches.  Stop by to find out how you can apply for the ACE program

Did you take homecoming pictures? Please pick up your photos during both lunches in the mall.

Need to order pictures? Bring your photo ticket to the booth and you can purchase your memorable pictures.

West-MEC (Koole; 10/18- 10/19)

Attention sophomores and juniors! Are you interested in applying for a West-MEC program? Every program at West-MEC’s Northeast Campus has an open house this Wednesday (October 19th) from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. These include: Auto Collision, Auto Technology, Climate Control, Construction, Medical Assisting, Diesel, Pharmacy Technician and Veterinary Sciences. The Northeast Campus is located at 1617 W Williams Dr. in Phoenix.  Bring your parents for a hands-on look at these exciting programs.  Stop by the Counseling Office for more information!

JV Football (Hernandez; 10/18)

JV football won 46-0. It was our third straight win to give us a 3-3 record on the season so far

GCC lunch visit (TStarr; 10/19)

Glendale Community College will be on campus today during both lunches.  Stop by and see what exciting things are new.  Check with their representative to see if they have the courses you want to study.  Come to the Career Center today during your lunch.

Cross Country (Groseta; 10/19)

The Cross Country continued its season of dominance as 7 athletes won medals yesterday at the District JV and Freshman championships:

Badminton ended the regular season strong with Varsity and JV wins against Cortez yesterday!
Badminton (L. Cass; 10/19)
JV won 9-0, and Varsity won 8-1 to end with a winning record of 9-5 and as a top ranked team in the state! Independence will compete in individual state with Ophelia Htoo in singles and the doubles team of Cierrah Hernandez and Deja Kennedy representing IHS in the tournament. Good work badminton!

Please do not be late.  It is mandatory if you are playing soccer.  It will only take 15 minutes so make sure you are here.  Again, all girls interested in playing soccer meet in room 211 this Friday @ 2:45.

National College Fair (TStarr; 10/20- 10/21)

Have you thought about attending a college out of Arizona?  This Sunday the National College Fair will stop in downtown Phoenix and there you will be able to talk with over 200 colleges and universities from around the United States and several from Europe.  This is a once a year opportunity to explore the vast array of colleges across the United States without leaving Phoenix.  Details of the place and times are in the Career Center.

GCU lunch workshop (T. Starr; 10/20)

Seniors:  Have you applied to Grand Canyon University and don’t know what do to next?  Stop by the Career Center today during your lunch to talk with their representative to find out your next steps.  This would also be a good time to do your application to GCU in the Career Center.

JV Volleyball (Andazola; 10/21)

Congratulations to the JV volleyball team in their amazing win last night against Betty Fairfax. You ladies did a fabulous job! Coaches are very proud. 

Varsity Volleyball (Monaghan; 10/21)

Congratulations to the Varsity Volleyball team who defeated Betty Fairfax in 4 games. Great job ladies you are awesome.  Ladies have senior night Tuesday come out and support them against Glendale.
