Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Every Day:

Independence Food Drive has begun! Help out those in need and help Independence get 1st place this year. Bring in your canned food items to classrooms with food drive boxes. If you bring in 6 cans to the attendance office, you can avoid a lunch detention.

The annual campus Believe Campaign is back!

Every year Macy’s hosts a Believe Campaign, meaning, for every Santa letter collected, they donate $1.00 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.

Independence is collecting letters to turn in on National Believe, when each Santa letter is worth $2.00!

Students can turn in letters to any teacher until December 7th; teachers have boxes in their classes wrapped in holiday paper. There are also collection boxes in the offices, Media Center and the PACE Lab.

The teacher who collects the most letters wins a prize!

Letters can be as simple as, “Dear Santa, You are amazing! May I, please, have a new bike for Christmas?”

Independence collected 30,650 letters as a campus last year!

Let’s come together, again, Patriot Family, and make a difference for a charity that grants “the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Remember how great the Homecoming Dance was?  Good news: a semi-formal winter dance is scheduled—and the same DJ is booked! “A Frosty Night” Winter Dance will be held on Friday, December 9th from 7-10pm. Presale will be Nov 28-Dec 2 for $5 & Dec 5-Dec 9 for $8.

Volleyball (Monaghan; 11/28)

Attention all Volleyball players.  Please stop by Ms. Monaghan’s room 211 to pick up banquet information asap.

Wrestling (Anthony; 11/23)

Congratulations to the Wrestling Team.  Varsity beat Estrella Foothills, Greenway and Carl Hayden in team points last night.  Wrestlers of the night were Alan Trevizo and Kevin Hernandez who went 3 and 0 on the night.

Monday, November 28th-Friday, December 2nd get reading to show your wintery school spirit!

All spirit week outfits must adhere to dress code!

Monday—winter morning wear long pajamas or onesies—must wear shoes…no slippers!

Tuesday—ugly sweater

Wednesday—favorite holiday character

Thursday—family photo flannel day

Friday—white out

Are you interested in a West-MEC program for next year?  If so, there is a mandatory application meeting next Wednesday, December 7th.  You will need to attend one of the meetings: either 8:00 a.m. or 2:40 p.m. in the Mini Auditorium. Remember, if you do not attend one of these meetings, you may miss your chance to apply! See your counselor if you have questions.

INDEPENDENCE WINTER COLORGUARD (Meldrum; 12/1)

Are you interested in spinning flags, rifles and sabres?  Do you like to dance?  You may want to join the Independence Winter Colorguard.  There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, December 6 at 2:45 in the Band Room.  It will be about a 30 minute meeting.  Please contact Mr. Meldrum in the Band Room for questions.

FAFSA-Seniors (TStarr; 12/1)

Seniors: now that your Senior research paper is done you need to work on your FAFSA.  Did you know if you plan to go to GCC that a Pell Grant would pay for most of your costs?  You qualify for a Pell Grant by filling out FAFSA.  There is no reason NOT to fill out your financial aid papers.  Mrs. Starr has information on FAFSA for you. 

Book Club (Ehrick; 12/1)

Attention Students,

Do you have a bunch of little kids’ books at home? Instead of donating them to Goodwill, bring them to the Media Center. I.H.S book club is hosting a book drive for Apollo Preschool and the Glendale Little Library Program.

Just think, your old kids’ books will be enjoyed again!

JV Soccer (Monaghan; 12/2)

Congrats to the JV girls’ soccer team who defeated Barry Goldwater with a score of 3-0. Hard work pays off ladies. Great work.

Varsity Soccer (Monaghan; 12/2)

Congrats to the Varsity Girls Soccer team for defeating Barry Goldwater last night with a score of 6-0. Ladies play very well and dominated the field.
