MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS 

Bookstore (Holt; 8/14- 5/19)

Driver Education (Ben St. Pierre; 10/16)

Students interested in Drivers Education for the October session need to register with the Moon Valley bookstore by October 20th. Contact the Moon Valley bookstore at 623-915-8019.  Students must have a valid permit or divers license in order to take the class.  Students also need to participate in all  4 classes and then receive 6 hours behind the wheel instruction in order to pass the class.  The deadline for students interested in drivers education need to be registered by Friday October 20th.  Classes begin the Saturday you return from Fall Break. Thank you.

GCC ACE Announcement (Dr. Rodriguez; 10/6- 10/18)

Sophomores Only: GCC is offering free college classes through the ACE Program.  GCC will be doing a presentation of all the information and how to apply. It will be Wednesday, October 18th,  in the Mini at 7:30-8:55.  GCC Representatives will be presenting and answering all questions on how to apply. The ACE application will be due November 2nd  to your counselor. This is a scholarship program for free college classes at Glendale Community College and a great opportunity! Be there!

PSAT (Dr. Rodriguez; 10/5- 10/24)

Sophomores and Juniors do you want a chance to earn scholarship money to go to college anywhere in the US?  Sign up to take the PSAT test in the bookstore now.  The test is October 25th in the PAC building and it is first come first serve until it is full.  The cost is $16.00 paid in the bookstore.   

STUCO (Marshall; 10/16)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you their tasty barbeque. You have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Media Center (Ehrick; 10/16)

Attention All Library Patrons,

Over a hundred books are due this week! Please check your due date cards or stop by the library to renew, return, or exchange your book today. Forgot the book at home, no worries. Stop into the library with your ID number and Mrs. Ehrick can renew your book.

West-MEC (Koole; 10/16- 10/17)

Are you looking for a career in beauty and wellness? What about becoming an EMT? Are you interested in applying for a West-MEC program? There is an open house at West-MEC’s Deer Valley campus this Tuesday from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.  The Deer Valley campus houses the Cosmetology, Massage Therapy, Aesthetician, and EMT program. Bring your parents for a hands-on look at these exciting programs and remember…you get more points on your application if you attend an OPEN HOUSE!  Stop by the Counseling Office for more information!

Cross Country (Groseta; 10/18)

Congratulations to the Cross Country teams for their 2nd place finish at the District Championship yesterday.  Many runners won medals, but most impressive was Cristian Guillen and Jesus Aldana finishing FIRST and SECOND of all district runners, closely followed by Ben Adames in 4th.  Great Job runners!

There will be a mandatory meeting on Monday at 2:45 pm in the Main Gym.  This meeting will pertain to getting cleared and open gyms/conditioning for the week.  Basketball Tryouts start on OCTOBER 30th at 3:00 pm.  You MUST be cleared to tryout! Please see COACH Gardner in the PE office if you have questions.  

Chess Team (Bolton; 10/19)

The Independence Patriot Chess Team want to congratulate all the Fall Sports teams and their successes, as the Varsity Chess Team celebrate qualifying for their first ever State Team Tournament after outstanding performances at the final season tourney just before fall break.  Team led by Captain Kevin Romero Ordorica, Ethan Amaya, Brayan Molina, Anthony Adams, and Grace Pearson won 4 of 5 matches to improve their regular season record to 6-4-1, good for 6th place in Region 2 out of 21 schools!  All members are expected to join Coach Bolton in his room B-24 after school today to discuss next week’s “Region 2’s Individual Qualifier Tournament.”

Swim and dive (Hallum; 10/20)

The Girls swim and dive team had another great showing yesterday against Peoria.  Rookie swimmers Janeth Paez, Breezia Medina, Hailey Stone and Madeline Smith all had impressive races and the veteran members Irma Uris, Briana Gonzalez, Fernanda Lozano, Noellie Valdez, Christina Mai, Diana Lopez and Fernanda Rojas kicked in with some awesome races.  Good Job Ladies.

 Freshmen Noah Arrieta and Guillermo Cazarez, Sophomores Ethan Amaya, Erick Aguayo and Kyle Gayo, Juniors Fernando Aguayo, Elijah Cortez, Danny Huynh and Erick Lujan and Seniors Luis Alvarez, Elijah Arrieta, Justin Delgado and Ricardo Sanchez continued their record-setting season, as the boy's team had another dominating win yesterday,  improving their record to 6 and 1. They won 8 out of 11 races and came in second in 8 of them.  

There are only a couple of chances left this year to see this amazing team in action.  Wish them luck in their invitational tonight and then come out and support them at their last home meet next Tuesday at 4:00.
