GCC ACE Announcement (Dr. Rodriguez; 10/20-10/31)

Sophomores Only: GCC is offering free college classes through the ACE Program.  GCC came and did presentation of all the information, if you missed it, see your counselor.  The application is in the counseling department, come in and pick it up. The ACE application will be due November 1st  to your counselor. This is a scholarship program for free college classes at Glendale Community College and a great opportunity!

Independence Food Drive has begun! Help out those in need; Bring in your canned food items to classrooms with food drive boxes. If you bring in 4 cans to the attendance office, you can avoid a lunch detention.

FCCLA (10/26- 10/31)

FCCLA is holding its annual Halloween BAKE SALE ON Tuesday October 31 during both lunches in the Mall area. Please find us and enjoy some Halloween treats.

PIT CLUB (Gardner; 10/30)

PIT Club will meet next week on October 31st and November 1st in the weight room. You must have your orange release form filled out and turned in to come in. If you would like to join come, see Coach Gardner in the PE Locker room for a release form.

West-MEC (Koole; 10/27- 11/6)

Are you planning to apply for a West-MEC program this year? This is your chance! Bring your parents to our informational meeting next TuesdayNovember 7th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the PAC building. STUCO (Marshall; 10/30)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you their tasty barbeque. You have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Patriot Nation (A. Gardner, A. Rux ;10/30- 10/31)

Hey Patriots! There will be an important Patriot Nation meeting on Wednesday November 1st at 2:45 in R7. If you will not be able to attend, please see Ms. Rux.

Photo Club Meeting Postponed (Mr. Kerr; 10/30)

Attention Photo Club members: our meeting for today has been postponed. Once again, there will not be a photo club meeting today. We will announce the rescheduled meeting date soon, have a happy Monday.

Swim and Dive (Hallum; 10/30)

Independence Swim and Dive finished the season in awesome fashion last Friday, bringing home a total of 18 medals from the district Championships, a school record. Elijah Cortez took 3rd place in the dive competition.

The girls Medley relay team of Diana Lopez, Maria Coronado, Madeline Smith and Fernanda Rojas started the evening by taking third and the boys medley team of Elijah Arrieta, Guillermo Cazarez, Luis Alvarez and Ricardo Sanchez Hernandez followed them on to the platform taking fourth place.

Among the amazing individual performances were Briana Gonzalez finishing 9th overall in the 200 freestyle, while on the boys side Danny Huynh finishing 9th, Erick Luna Ochoa 10th and Kyle Gayo 12th. Fernanda Rojas took 12th in the Individual Medley and Diana Lopez 15th, while in the boys Individual Medley Guillermo Cazarez finished 6th and Ricardo Sanchez 13th. In the 50 freestyle Briana Gonzalez placed 14th, Danny Huynh took 15th and Kyle Gayo 16th. Luis Alvarez took 6th in the 100 butterfly, Fernanda Rojas placed 14th in the 500 freestyle and Eric Luna Ochoa placed 13th in the 500 for the boys. In the 100 backstroke Diana Lopez placed 12th, then, Elijah Arrieta took 7th, Ricardo Sanchez 8th and Ethan Amaya 14th. In the 100 Breaststroke Maria Coronado placed 14th and for the boys Guillermo Cazarez placed 14th and Elijah Cortez 15th.

Freshmen Madeline Smith had two incredible individual performances taking 2nd place overall in the 100 Butterfly with a state qualifying time of 1:06 and then 4th place in the 100 backstroke with another state qualifying time of 1::09. Both Madeline’s individual medals and state qualifying times are things that an Independence female swimmer hasn’t achieved in years.

To finish off the meet the 4 by 100 freestyle relay teams both earned their way on to the podium. The girls team of Madeline Smith, Christina Mai, Briana Gonzalez and Fernanda Rojas placed fourth and the boys team of Luis Alvarez, Danny Huynh, Ricardo Sanchez and Elijah Arrieta finished 3rd. This is the 2nd consecutive year that 2 girls teams have earned medals at the District Championships and the First time a boys relay team, much less two of them, have earned medals in years.

Great Job Patriots, your coaches and your school are proud of you.

This play is comprised of nine short plays that explore love and loss in a remote, mythical almost-town called Almost, Maine. Please come out and support your Patriot Performers. Tickets are $6 cash at the door. Hope to see you there!

Elevate I.H.S. (Bolton, Foster, Badini; 11/1)

Elevate I.H.S. (Surge on Campus) Christian Fellowship Club will be meeting after school TODAY Wednesday the 1stat 2:45 in Mr. Bolton’s room B-24.  At this special meeting, we will be gathering together briefly to discuss upcoming holiday outreach projects, then separating guys and gals to discuss gender specific challenges that each need support for.   ALL current Elevate I.H.S. Chess Team (Bolton; 11/3)

The Patriot Chess Team travels to their first ever AIA State Team Tournament today & tomorrow thanks to outstanding performances this season by Captain Kevin Romero Ordorica, Ethan Amaya, Brayan Molina, Anthony Adams, Grace Pearson, and Victor Bruno!  All players, including eligible alternates are expected to join Coach Bolton in his room B-24 at 2:15 pm today to travel to the 2017 State Team Tournament. Theater Club (Farson; 11/3- 11/7)

Attention theatre club members: If you signed up to attend the Arizona Thespian Festival, you need to attend a meeting on Tuesday 11/7, directly following the theatre club meeting. You will need to be there to obtain important paperwork for the field trip. If you are not able to attend, you need to see Ms. Farson by the end of the day on November 8th to receive the paperwork.

Patriot Hut (11/3/17)

The Patriot Hut closes out Grand Opening Week today with the final offer of FREE CHIPS for the first 10 paying customers.  We’re open from 2:40-3:10 today near the music note.  Grab a snack or a drink on your way off campus or before your practice or meeting!
