GCC Hoop of Learning (Dr. Rodriguez; 11/1- 11/17)

Are you a Native American high school student, a member of a federally recognized tribe?  Would you like to earn free college credits?  You are invited to GCC Hoop of Learning Recruitment Day, November 18th, 10:00-11:30 at GCC in MA-120.  See your counselor for more information.

Every Day:

Independence Food Drive has begun! Help out those in need; Bring in your canned food items to classrooms with food drive boxes. If you bring in 4 cans to the attendance office, you can avoid a lunch detention.

Key Club (Pampel; 11/1- 11/17)

Do you have to much stuff in your closet? Key Club has a way to help. Bring your unwanted clothing to the clothing drive on November 18th. We will be at the front of the school in the bus drop off zone from 10am to Noon. If you cannot make it on Saturday feel free to bring your clothing donations to room R-14 before Friday, November 17th.

Softball (S. Wyatt; 11/13)

All girls interested in playing softball, don’t forget open field starts November 14th, meet out on the softball at 3:00.

Shane’s Rib Shack (Marshall; 11/13)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Elevate I.H.S. (Surge on Campus; Bolton; Foster, Badini; 11/15)

Elevate I.H.S. (Surge on Campus) Christian Fellowship Club will be meeting after school TODAY Wednesday the 15th at 2:45 in Mr. Bolton’s room B-24.  At this special meeting, we will be finalizing upcoming holiday outreach projects and so much more.   ALL current Elevate I.H.S. The Independence campus collection of Santa letters for the Macy's Believe Campaign has started!

One letter to Santa is a $1 donation from Macy's to the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, which "grant[s] the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy."  

 Last year, the Patriot Family turned in 29,375 Santa letters! 😊

Students can turn in letters to any teacher.  There will be another friendly teacher competition, and our campus collection will run from now through December 5th. Letters can be on any paper, but, we can't really count them when it is on something like a small scrap of paper.

Please write positive and school appropriate Santa letters; letters are delivered to a local Macy’s.

Photo Club Field Trip (Mr. Kerr; 11/15)

Hey, photo club members: if you are going on the field trip tomorrow, don’t forget to bring money for dinner. Wear comfortable shoes as we will be doing a lot of walking. We will meet in Mr. Kerr’s room right after 7th period on Thursday. See you there!

The IHS piano students will perform in a piano recital tonight in the PAC, and their family and friends are invited to attend. There are three recitals: one at 5:00, one at 6.

Patriot Hut (11/17)

It’s Friday, so you should definitely come by the new student store and grab a snack after school! Tell your friends to meet you at The Patriot Hut! You’ll see the service window right by the music note.

Boys Basketball (Maragh; 11/17-11/20)

The Independence Boys’ Basketball Team begins their season this Monday, November 20th against Cortez High School.  This is a home game.  Game time is at 4pm.  Admission for students is $3 and adults are $5.  Please come on out and support our hardworking Patriots!!

November 14th-20th is Transgender Awareness Week

This is a time for transgender people and their allies to educate the public about the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that transgender people face, while also advocating for transgender inclusion.

Monday is Transgender Day of Remembrance, an annual observance on November 20th that honors the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.

In 2017 at least 24 transgender people were murdered in the U.S. and at least 286 worldwide in acts of anti-transgender violence.

During lunch on Monday, SAGAA students will be in the mall with stickers honoring these lives lost and to show support for transgender students.  Come by to get a sticker and show your support.
