Driver’s Ed (St. Pierre; 1/29)

The 3rd session for Driver's Ed starts Saturday February 3rd at 8AM to Noon. Cost is $210 dollars. You need a valid drivers license, permit and student ID. You need to register at the Moon Valley bookstore by Wednesday January 31. 

STUCO (Marshall; 1/29)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you their tasty barbeque. You have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Thirst Project (Ms. Kates; 1/29- 1/31)

Did you know that 844 million people worldwide do not have access to clean drinking water? Did you know that the average child spends approximately 7 hours a day walking to get dirty drinking water for their families that may or may not kill them? The good news is, there is something that you can do about it! This week, you can help raise money to build a water well so people in Swaziland have access to clean drinking water. Blue ribbons are being sold throughout the week to help with this cause. You can purchase a small ribbon for $.50 and a large ribbon for $1. See a Thirst Project member to help end the world water crisis!

Boys Soccer (S. Gomez; 1/29)

WEDNESDAY NIGHT IS THE NIGHT!!

Come out and support your #2 ranked and Region Champions boys soccer team as they host Arcadia high school in a 1st round State playoff game at 6:00. It will be a white out, so make sure to show your Patriot Pride and wear white!!

Student Council (Marshall; 1/29)

Student Council just accomplished hosting an exhausting, but impecible state convention. This was a 3 year planning process in which 2046 visitors were on campus to enhance their leadership skills and your STUCO did a superb job at entertaining, feeding, and empowering all that visited our campus. 

Thank you to IHS Cheer, Band, Dance, Theater, Choir, JROTC, Culinary, and the 100+ volunteers who helped make this event so specectacular.

Drumline (Meldrum; 1/29)

The drumlines from Independence and Glendale will be facing off in a Drum Battle on Channel 12 news!  The event is Monday, January 29 on the 4PM newscast.  The drumlines will square off once during the 4-4:30 block, and once during the 4:30-5PM block.  Individual soloists will dazzle you intermittently during the rest of the broadcast.  The winner will be decided by the VIEWERS (you).  The public will vote online via MEGAPHONE http://www.12news.com/article/entertainment/megaphone-vote-for-facebook/499747159 .  The winning drumline will have an encore performance at the end of the broadcast.

Attention La Familia Club members.  If you are interested in volunteering at the Pancake Run on Sunday, February 4, come to the meeting this Thursday, February 1st to get more information after school in Ms. Figueroa’s room, R28.

Art Club (L. Cramer; 1/30)

Attention all Art Club members… We will be making our 2nd attempt at taking our club photograph for the yearbook tomorrow after school at 2:45. If you are an officer in Art Club you must show up. Meet in Cramer’s room- 232. Do not be late or you will not be in the photograph. We will also finalize the T-shirt logo designs after taking the club photo. You will not get a T-shirt unless you contribute to the design. See you tomorrow.

A mandatory meeting for National Honor Society will be held this Friday in room    B-4. All members must attend either at 7:15 a.m. or at 2:45 a.m. Remember: NHS meeting this Friday.

The Blood Drive is this Friday. Please sign up during lunch in the mall or see any STUCO member for a form.  If you are under 18 you must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Baseball (1/31- 2/9)

Anyone who is interested in playing baseball this spring, come out and join us on the varsity baseball field this whole week at 3:00 pm. Official tryouts will begin on Monday February 5th.

Hiking Club (Ms. Chandler; Ms. Mitchell; 1/31)

Hey Patriots! Just a reminder that if you are attending tomorrow’s Hiking Club trip to Piestwa Peak, please don’t forget to bring a change of clothes and your gear to school tomorrow! See you then! Remember: Hike More… Worry Less!

Boys Soccer (S. Gomez; 2/1)

The Boys soccer team started the State playoffs on the right foot, with a solid 3-0 victory over Arcadia HS last night. Sr team Captain and Region Player of the year Aaron Vilchis led the way with 2 goals in the first half. Jr Alex Mata sealed the victory with a goal in the 2nd half. Jr Goalkeeper Jason Rodriguez had the shutout in the net, With great defensive help from the back line!! The team would like to thank all the students, teachers and family that came out to last night!! We hope to see Patriot Nation in full effect on Saturday as we host Tucson Desert View in a quarter final match at 2:00.

There will be a mandatory meeting for all athletes wanting to be apart of the track team this year on Thursday Feb. 1st. in the main gym at 2:45. If you can not make it see Coach Gardner on Friday to get the information.

Boys’ and girls’ Tennis tryouts begin next week on Monday, February 5th, and run through Thursday February 8th. You must be cleared BEFORE you can try out. For the first time in program history, the boys soccer team will be hosting a quarterfinal game tomorrow Saturday at 2:00 against Tucson Desert View. Come out to show your Patriot Pride and cheer the team to victory!! A win would put the Patriots into the final four for the third year in a row!!! Hope to see you all there!!
