MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Photo/Art Club (Cramer; 5/7)

Attention Art and Photo Club members. The Art Museum field trip has been rescheduled to this Wednesday May 9th, leaving right after school. If you are still planning on attending or if you cannot go you must stop in and let Ms. Cramer know. See Cramer in room 232 to tell her if you are going or if you cannot go.

Theatre Club (Farsons; 5/7)

Theatre Club Members: You have until Tuesday 5/8/18 after school to buy your tickets to the end of the year banquet. Tickets are $8.00 and include dinner, performances, awards, and Thespian Inductions. Tickets will not be sold at the door. Don’t miss out on the LAST Theatre Club event of the school year. See Ms. Farson to by your tickets.

Media Center (Ehrick; 5/7)

All library books will be due tomorrow. No renewals. No new checkouts. Books may be returned to the media center or the bookstore. Late fees may be settled at a later date.

Link Crew (5/7)

If you are interested in applying to be a 2018-2019 Link Crew leader the deadline for applications has been extended to Tuesday, May 8th!  Please make sure to turn in your completed application to Mr. Barton, Mr. Metoyer, Ms. Knapp, Ms, Montfoort, Ms. Mitchell, or Ms. Rux by Tuesday, May 8th at 3:30pm!!

Shane’s Rib (Marshall; 5/7)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you’re their tasty barbeque. You will have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

There will be a mandatory meeting for all track kids on Wednesday 5/9 to turn in your uniform and get the banquet information. The meeting will take place in the Main Gym at 2:45.  If you are not able to attend please see Coach Gardner as soon as you can.

Extra graduation tickets are on sale now through May 16th. the price is $5. Students can buy up to 5 apiece. They are on sale in the bookstore, before and after school and during lunches. Students must have their ID to purchase these tickets. 

Elevate I.H.S. (Bolton/Foster/Barrett; 5/8- 5/9)

Elevate I.H.S. Christian Fellowship Club will host a special End-of-Year Celebration of “How much U R Loved!” THIS Wednesday the 9th after school starting at 2:45 in the Mini-Auditorium until approximately 3:35 pm and invites anyone that wants to join us for fellowship, food, and fun, especially any members of any of our fellow clubs on campus.  ALL are welcome and be sure to bring a friend along.  We look forward to seeing you there and remember that U R Loved!

To all you Anime fans, you Otaku (o-ta-ku) Anime club meeting has been moved to Thursday for this week. Repeat the meeting for today has been moved to Thursday. The final Anime club meeting will be next Tuesday The 15th.

The Patriot Hut is serving up pizza, mac n cheese, burritos, corndogs and turkey melts for the rest of this week!  After school all week, we’re Chillin’ at the Hut with NHS.  Come by and grab an otter pop to cool you off on your way home; your purchase supports NHS.  AND, the first 50 seniors to shop at the Patriot Hut can ask for a free class of 2018 sticker.

Young Environmentalist’s Club (Bolton; 5/10)

The Young Environmentalist’s Club will be holding a “special” meeting TODAY, Thursday May 9th for ALL members, including our JR. ROTC partners right after school in Room B24! We will be performing the “Adopt-a-Street” of 75th Ave between Glendale Ave and Bethany Home Road, beautifying it by cleaning up any trash along the “right-of-way.” 

Also, as the school year winds down, Y.E.C. would like to ask teachers to please be sure to bring any recyclable paper to ANY of the downstairs’ prep rooms, main office copy room, Media Center copy room or next to room 114A if you are not available for classroom pick-up NEXT Thursday, May 16th after school from 2:45-3:15. 

Spring Football (Maldonado; 5/10- 5/24)

It’s not too late! Spring football has arrived, and if you are interested in playing football next year at any level you need to be out on the field! Success comes from hard work, Patriots. Be on the Varsity field at 3:15 each day to start a new era of Independence Football! If you have any questions about eligibility or schedule, stop and talk to Mr. Maldonado or Mr. Urban today!

Day Of Silence (Beck; 5/10)

Tomorrow, Friday, May 11, SAGAA will be honoring the Day of Silence.  This is a national event that brings attention to anti-LGBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools. Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence to illustrate the silencing effect of bullying and harassment on LGBT students.  SAGAA members will be in the mall area before school with booklets and stickers for students who wish to participate.  Remember that you will be expected to speak in class if your teacher requests it.

Summer Swim (Hallum; 5/11- 5/18)

Attention All Patriots.  The Swim coaches of the Glendale Union High School District will be holding a summer swim program at Apollo High School that is open to all student enrolled for next year in a participating school and Independence is included.  What does that mean for you?  For the low low price of only $25.00, you can gain access to a facility to go and cool off and exercise for almost the entire summer.  There will be certified lifeguards and coaches on deck to help you improve your swimming technique.  Even if you are not on the swim team, this can provide you with a great way to stay in shape.  So, instead of sitting around and losing your athletic edge, join us in the water and start the next school year off conditioned for whatever sports you might be competing in.  Stop by room R-25 to see Coach Hallum for information, but hurry, forms and fees need to be returned no later than Friday, May 18th.
