MONDAY ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

 

Bookstore (Holt; 5/8- 5/16)

Extra graduation tickets are on sale now through May 16th. the price is $5. Students can buy up to 5 apiece. They are on sale in the bookstore, before and after school and during lunches. Students must have their ID to purchase these tickets. 

Spring Football (Maldonado; 5/10- 5/24)

It’s not too late! Spring football has arrived, and if you are interested in playing football next year at any level you need to be out on the field! Success comes from hard work, Patriots. Be on the Varsity field at 3:15 each day to start a new era of Independence Football! If you have any questions about eligibility or schedule, stop and talk to Mr. Maldonado or Mr. Urban today!

STUCO (Marshall; 5/14)

Everybody love Barbeque and Shane’s Rib Shack will be here every Monday to bring you their tasty barbeque. You have the option to purchase a shredded barbeque sandwich or buffalo chicken strips with chips for $5.00.

Summer Swim (Hallum; 5/11- 5/18)

Attention All Patriots.  The Swim coaches of the Glendale Union High School District will be holding a summer swim program at Apollo High School that is open to all student enrolled for next year in a participating school and Independence is included.  What does that mean for you?  For the low low price of only $25.00, you can gain access to a facility to go and cool off and exercise for almost the entire summer.  There will be certified lifeguards and coaches on deck to help you improve your swimming technique.  Even if you are not on the swim team, this can provide you with a great way to stay in shape.  So, instead of sitting around and losing your athletic edge, join us in the water and start the next school year off conditioned for whatever sports you might be competing in.  Stop by room R-25 to see Coach Hallum for information, but hurry, forms and fees need to be returned no later than Friday, May 18th.

Stretch & Golden Rule (Frazen; May 14th)

For several years, P3 has presented the student Stretch Award.  This award recognizes students who have shown growth over the year in areas of: attendance, academics and attitude. Teachers recommend students and they are honored at the Evening of Excellence as well as with a STRETCH Limo Lunch. The Stretch Award Recipients for 2017-2018 are:

Marseen Al Saado & Julio Lopez

On Wednesday, May 23rd Marseen, Julio and their guests will be chauffeured in a stretch limousine to Chase Field to have lunch at Fridays Front Row Grill courtesy of P3. 

The Golden Rule Award winner is also invited.  The Golden Rule Award recognizes a teacher who has gone out of his or her way to make a difference at I.H.S. Numerous students wrote in letters this year and The 2018 Golden Rule Award Recipient this year is Ms. Milesic!

There will be a meeting for all those interested in running cross-country at 2:45 on Wednesday May the 16th in Coach Hermann’s room 116 in the science building. We will discuss running over the summer and our season coming up in the fall. Cross-country is a great opportunity to get in shape for other sports during the year. If you think you are fast, cross-country will make you faster.

Art Show (Cramer; 5/16)

The Visual Arts Department would like to thank IHS students and staff for visiting the art show yesterday. It was wonderful to see the respect show to the student artists and to celebrate their talent. If you are interested in the award winners a list is posted upstairs around the blue staircase.

Young Environmentalist’s Club (Bolton; Kieu; 5/17)

The Young Environmentalist’s Club will be holding a “special” meeting TODAY, Thursday May 17th for ALL members. We need to elect new officers and discuss plans for next year.

Also, as the school year winds down, Y.E.C. would like to ask teachers to please be sure to bring any recyclable paper to ANY of the downstairs’ prep rooms, main office copy room, Media Center copy room or next to room 114A if you are not available for classroom pick-up TODAY Thursday, May 15th after school from 2:45-3:15.
